AREAS WE FISH

Enjoy spectacular fishing year round for trophy trout on Arkansas' famous rivers and experience awesome fly rod action on area lakes and streams. Led by Capt. Jamie Rouse with 25+ years of guiding experience in Arkansas, Alaska and Colorado, you can enjoy the great outdoors and have the ultimate fly fishing adventure.

Our homewaters have produced two world record brown trout as well as the world record walleye and hybrid bass. The rivers of Arkansas for the most part have constant water temperature and are rich with aquatic insects, crustaceans, minnows, and bait fish, which allow for some of the best fishing in North America year round.

LITTLE RED RIVER: The Little Red River runs through the gateway of the Ozarks near Heber Springs, Arkansas. It is a tailwater. The dam creates a massive lake, Greers Ferry. Below Greers Ferry Dam you will find some of the country’s best trout fishing. The Little Red rolls along 82 miles before it meets up with the White River. Roughly 45 miles of this are considered quality trout water. The jewels of the famed Little Red are the brown trout. Our browns are an all wild population. Part of the Little Red’s success is the abundant aquatic life. Most of these fish are getting fat on sow bugs, scuds, and crawfish. And of course, the larger browns enjoy a rainbow snack. We have a few hatches consisting of march browns and caddis that can deliver some dry fly fishing. Nymphing ends up being the standard for most. For those that are looking for large browns the Red is a streamer fisherman’s delight.

WHITE RIVER: The big, beautiful White has almost 80 miles of quality fishing rolling through the Ozarks. The water is crystal clear. There are healthy populations of rainbows, browns, cutthroat.

NORFORK RIVER: The Norfork is a short, medium sized river that is very prolific with trout. It is unique in that it has four species of trout—rainbows, browns, cutthroat and brookies.

Arkansas truly has the best winter fishery anywhere. Ask about the shad kill. Area lakes and streams provide very exciting action for stripers, hybrids, smallmouth and largemouth bass, all on a fly.

OUR TEAM is constantly exploring new techniques and fisheries. We are considered an instructional outfitter having something to offer all skill levels from the new fly fisherman to the most advanced angler. Our trips consist of both wade and boat fishing. We can customize the trip to meet your preference or needs. For more information on our trips and booking go to TRIP INFO & RATES.

OTHER THINGS TO DO:

Little Red area:

Sugarloaf Mountain: Sugarloaf Mountain rises 690 feet. It is an erosional remnant beside the Little Red River in Arkansas. The Osage Tribe who used to live there called it Tonawanda and from the top there is a view that extends for miles in every direction. The earliest settlers called it Sugarloaf because it looked like the shape of the loaves of unrefined sugar in use at that time. Sugarloaf became the name of the community that developed nearby. It was later changed to Heber Springs.

Bridal Veil Falls: Bridal Veil Falls is a 0.5 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Heber Springs, Arkansas that features a beautiful waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Magness Lake: Each year, more than 100 trumpeter swans descend on Magness Lake, a small oxbow off the Little Red River. This wintering population of birds flocks to Heber Springs from their Midwestern homes and their arrival makes for an exciting birding experience. Their stay extends from late November through February.

Jitterbug Coffee Shop: This is our favorite coffee spot serving locally roasted coffee and espresso as well as a great lunch. Kati’s favorite is the Cross Fit Salad along with a vanilla latte. Jamie’s favorite is the Smoked Turkey Avocado Panini and a dirty chai with soy. We’ve been here so often that most of the time, our order is ready before we say it.

White River/Norfork area:

Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail: Located in the Sylamore District of the Ozark National Forest north of Mountain View, the most single-track trail offers over 50 miles for novice to advanced bikers. The trail consists of five interconnecting loops accessible from the trailhead on Ark. 5, plus three trailheads on Green Mountain Road. It is designated a IMBA Epic Ride.

Syllamore Trail: This trail begins near the White River at Allison AR and goes west northwest for 23.5 miles where it meets the OHT. The trail runs up Sylamore Creek passing through three recreation areas: Blanchard Canverns and Springs, Gunner Pool and Barkshed Picnic Area. The trail used to stop there but has been extended up Cole Creek to the Cripple Turkey Trailhead.

Heidi’s Ugly Cakes: Great lunching spot located in Norfork, AR. Heidi’s is known for ugly cakes and great sandwiches.
